How They Saw the World

Product Description

Combined efforts of the married couple Lucija and Damijan Stepančič resulted in an interesting, educational and beautiful work. This book project is extraordinary in its rarity, as we do not often come across home grown original educational literature, much needed and welcome, of course. In pictures and words the book offers the answer to the question of how the world was seen by mariners, merchants, cartographers, pirates, explorers, rulers, adventurers, scientists, politicians, philosophers, poems, artists, and astronauts. The authors touch on the subject of Earth and Space, travels, important historical personalities, famous places, inventions, and discoveries, reaching far back and ending in our time, creating a nicely integrated whole. This interesting and innovative concept book is comprised of forty-six short chapters; the contents are far from dull and tedious, but smooth, at times also humorous, in short- a great read. The facts are clearly stated, yet they do demand some level of sophistication from the reader. In case of the lack of the latter the book is an excellent starting point for further exploration and learning.
