Alenka Sottler

She received her first lessons in drawing and sculpture in her father‘s studio. She studied painting, followed by two years postgraduate study in painting, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. She works as a freelance painter/ illustrator for the best publishers and magazines in Slovenia and abroad. She has illustrated more than 45 books and produced illustrations for children’s magazines. In the last few years, she has mostly illustrated poetry and fairy tales and made original engravings and works on paper inspired by literature and poetry. Her work has been exhibited in many places in the world. She lives as a freelance illustrator in Ljubljana.
She has received the following awards and recognitions, among others: First Award for the Most Beautiful Book in the category for children and young adults at the Ljubljana Book Fair (Slovenia), Award of Excellence for selection at the Bologna Book Fair Exhibition and she has received five Certificates of Merit for being selected at the 47th, 48th and 49th Annual Exhibitions, New York, USA.
