Irena Režek

Ever since Irena Režek (1985) was a young girl, she draw, paint, cut or glue everything she could. She liked sport as well, so when the time came she had to decide between art and ice hockey. She chose art. She studied visual comunication at Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. During her time at university, she was an exchange student at the Acadamy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, where she studied traditional animation. For her final work she made a cartoon Chicken or The Egg, which was made with pencil on paper. After her degree she had a baby and started a familly. At that time her friend wrote a book and ask her to illustrate it. It was then when she fell in love with illustration. Until now she had illustrated twenty children's books, including two author's picture books Vodna vila in čistilčki (The Water Fairy and The Cleaners, 2020) and Dooolgčas (Booored, 2021). As an illustrator, she says she needs to feel the story and have the responsibility to support it and sometimes give it an extra layer with a bit of humor.
