Tone Pavček

Author

Tone Pavček graduated from the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana in 1954. He then worked as a journalist and editor and was also the director of the Youth Theatre in Ljubljana for some time. Since 2001, he has been a member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Pavček is recognised poet, translator and essayist and has published several collections of poetry for children and adults. He has received many awards for his work including the Sovre Award in 1979, the Prešeren Award in 1984 and the Prešeren Fund Award in 1965. His children's poetry is considered to be one of the pinnacles of Slovenian children's literature. Pavček's works have been translated into several foreign languages. He also received the Levstik Award in 1958 for Georgy Porgy in Africa (Juri Muri v Afriki) and in 1961 for the poetry collection Megasensation (Velesenzacija). In 2007, he received the Veronika Award for the poetry collection Etchings (Ujedanke).
