This is a true story of the illustrator Damijan Stepančič's grandfather. His decision to draw it has led to the creation of a picture book for readers of all ages to mark the First World War Centenary.
Anton first ventured to the Galician Front as a 17-year-old boy and was later deployed to the Isonzo Front where he learned that his mother had died. One night, when all the soldiers in the cavern had fallen asleep, he hallucinated or dreamt that she was calling his name and then he saw her. Half-asleep, he followed her bright shadow, which led him away from the cavern toward the front line...
