Arsenije!

A young Serbian soldier, Arsenije, awakens to finds himself half-dead on a battlefield, surrounded by the dead bodies of his fellow soldiers. German paramedics discover that he’s alive but deaf. Somebody notifies his wife of his passing, so Arsenije finds her mourning when he returns home. The picture book titled Arsenije! tells the true life story of Arsenije Simić, who went deaf during the First World War. It is stunning and moving in its simplicity and it raises the issue of what happens after the war.
