Juniper and Black make their way across the mountains with a group of people. The journey is not only strenuous, but also dangerous. They must overcome numerous obstacles, including a raging river and a precipitous ridge. Their travelling companions tell them of people who didn’t make it. Winter in the mountains is harsh and ruthless. When they finally reach the valley, they are in for a surprise.
In Snow and Ice is the fifth book in the Stories from the End of the Stone Age series. Black-and-white illustrations accentuate the suspense, and like the previous stories, the book ends with educational descriptions of certain concepts and objects that appear in the story.
