Illustrator

Ana Zavadlav (1970) is a formally trained painter and illustrator. She graduated in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, where she also continued her studies with a specialisation in graphic arts. Following her studies, she worked as a graphic artist for some time, but since 2002 she has focused mainly on book illustration for children and young adults. She is a regular contributor to the Ciciban and Cicido magazines. Her works have been displayed in several solo and group exhibitions. Her illustrations for Toon Tellegen's book The Cricket and His Dark Feeling were exhibited at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, where she presented some of her works for Calvino's Italian Folktales as part of the Italian Excellence: Illustrations for Italo Calvino competition, which featured unique and innovative interpretations of Calvino by 30 illustrators, selected from among 521 authors from 47 countries. She has received several accolades and awards, including the Levstik Award, placement on the IBBY Honour List, and a nomination for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in 2023, 2024.
