Tina Volarič (1980) is an awarded illustrator and a poet. Her debut picture book (A Tale of Pickaninny Bamboulee and Giddy Giraffe, Frane Miličnski Ježek, Sanje, 2010) received an award for the most beautiful Slovenian book for children and youth at the Slovenian Book Fair that year. Ever since, she has been continuously discovering different dimensions and techniques of visual storytelling, being intrigued by differences of textual voices. She illustrated several picture books, including her own, and created editorial illustrations for children and grown ups. Her illustrations can be found in the major children's magazines in the country. She also illustrates music albums, book covers of fiction and humanistic works, museum guides, and she participates in interdisciplinary projects. She regularly works on independent conceptual series; although different and unrelated, their common theme is soft nostalgia, the intimate space of home and memories. She exhibited in Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, Poland, Portugal and China; and participated in illustration biennials in Ljubljana, Zagreb, Belgrade and Bratislava. She lives and works between the Karst and the Soča Valley, Slovenia.
